Since Dr. Mounir’s arrival in Manchester,
facial rejuvenation surgery has been one of his most requested operations.
The main objective of the facelift and/or Neck lift surgical procedure is to rejuvenate the look of the face, jaw area, and neck. It goes without saying that the degree of improvement varies depending on the patient’s needs and skin quality. Are you a candidate for facelift surgery? If you are considering a facelift in Manchester, you should make sure that the procedure is carried out by a qualified specialist and member of BAPRAS – such as Dr. Abel Mounir. Generally speaking, patients who are presenting at least two of the following aging symptoms are a good candidate for a facelift:
Dr. Mounir will ask you to email him your photos for a quick assessment before seeing you in the consultation for a proper clinical and cosmetic examination. If you are a good candidate for facial surgical renovation, your procedure will be planned according to your unique condition. Dr. Mounir will discuss with you the different modern available techniques for facial rejuvenation, designed to resolve problems that range from moderate to severe. Patients with moderate facial aging can usually be treated with less extensive surgery to remove excess skin. However, severe facial aging in which the anatomy of the deeper facial structure has been altered may necessitate a classic face and neck lift. In this case, the fat, skin, and underlying muscle are restored to their more youthful positions to achieve a younger and fresher look.
Excess fat is typically removed through a three to four cm incision under the chin during a neck lift, and the Platysma muscle is lifted and fixed behind the ear. Dr. Mounir will usually use a diagram drawing to explain to you the exact position of the incision during the neck lift. Often skin tightening is sufficient. Dr. Mounir will start by creating incisions carefully hidden within your hairline and behind the ears to avoid leaving you with noticeable scars. The procedure can be performed while you are under sedation. Excess skin is removed and tightened, while the underlying facial tissues (SMAS) are restored to achieve a fresh and youthful facial appearance.
Some patients show moderate signs of aging in their mid-facial region, neck, and jowls. Excess skin can sag and contribute to a less youthful appearance. Moderate facial skin problems are common in younger patients and are typically resolved with less extensive surgery.
If you do not have severe excess skin in the neck area, you may benefit from a mini facelift, which involves incisions running just in front of the ear only (no need for the scar behind your ear lobes). The objective would be to lift the cheeks and remove the excess skin. Usually, the swelling and bruising after a mini facelift are significantly less, and the recovery time is quicker.
Older patients often show more severe signs of facial aging and are often best treated with a traditional facelift, involving the remodeling of skin, fat, and underlying muscles to restore a more youthful look.
Severe facial aging is associated with noticeable flat cheeks and deep nasolabial folds, and therefore a considerable lifting of the mid-face area will be needed. The surgical plan would involve an incision placed under the lower eyelid to have access to the midface to restore the cheek and the nasolabial to a more youthful position. Often, the aging process in Men includes sagginess of the neck with the splitting of neck muscle (platysma), combined with eyebrow ptosis (low-hanging eyebrows with hooded look) and deep nasolabial folds. The surgical plan would usually include a neck and facelift surgery to treat the excess skin on the neck, face, and even the forehead. A facelift is often combined with upper and lower blepharoplasty.
Possible complications of a facelift:
Fat Transfer can be useful and needed to enhance your cosmetic outcome:
A fat transfer to the face can restore lost volume using your natural tissue. As a result, you can rest assured that your results will look and move completely naturally. However, there is an element of uncertainty regarding how much of the fat will ultimately survive the transfer.
In cases in which more fat is reabsorbed than is ideal, a secondary fat transfer or dermal filler injections can help to achieve the desired outcome. Sometimes, patients experience lumps in areas where fat is injected. However, this is usually easily resolved with external massaging of the transferred tissue. On rare occasions, revision surgery is needed.
Details of the anesthesia will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Dr. Mounir will request from your GP your medical records which clarifies your health status and helps to plan the most adequate anesthesia for you. The anesthetist will be caring for you during the whole procedure and your recovery process. Alternatively, “standby-anesthesia” is available. It is also controlled entirely by the anesthetist and calculated so that you will not be intubated and ventilated. You fall into a deep, pain-free sleep.
Dr. Mounir will not operate on you if you are a heavy smoker. Regardless of whether you are a smoker or not, please be aware that you will be subject to a nicotine test on the day of the surgery, and if this does come back positive, your surgery will be canceled, and you will lose 50% of the money you have paid.
A facelift can be carried out either in the hospital in Preston (First Trust Hospital) or in Newton-le-Willows (Pall Mall Hospital) on an outpatient basis but with a short stay in the hospital too. Generally, you should plan to stay in the hospital for 1-2 days, during which time post-operative care will be ensured by trained staff.
