Saline Vs Silicone Breast Implants: Which Is Better?

Saline implants are used mostly in the United States. Dr. Mounir does not offer saline implants. The thought that saline breast implants are safer than silicone implants is wrong. Most women are worried about the risk of rupture and silicone leaking (gel bleed) into the body. Therefore, women with saline implants may think that they are safe. In fact, both implants can cause a rare form of cancer called breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

Silicone implants look more natural. Silicone cohesive implants are silicone bags that are filled with silicone gel. These bags are made with silicone shells. Silicone gels come in different grades of cohesivity (Grade 1, 2 and 3). Implants with cohesive Grade 03 are supposed to be firmer and feel like firm breast tissue (glandular tissue), whereas implants containing cohesive grade 01 feel like the fat tissue of the breasts (less firm). Silicone breast implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Saline breast implants, however, produce a less natural look and feel and are known for their high-profile and round appearance. As already explained above, it’s widely thought that saline implants are less dangerous when actually saline implants are prone to mold and promote bacteria growth. Effectively, the rupture of the shell allows bacteria to grow inside the capsule. Then, the infected fluid can leak out of the implant and migrate to the rest of the body. This can cause chronic infections and serious health problems, leading to pectoralis muscles deterioration and respiratory problems.

How Do I Choose The Right Implant Size?

Choosing the right size for your implants can be very stressful, but here is what Dr. Mounir, breast augmentation specialist, has to say about how to help you make your decision about the size of your implants.

  • Make sure that you go through two stages of consent with your surgeon. This means you should meet with your Manchester plastic surgeon more than once. Take as long as you want before making your final decision about the size of the implants. During your consultation, be sure to ask to see and hold some sample implants in your hands. Do not rush your decision!
  • Use the Mentor sizing system. This allows you to try different size implants with your patient coordinator or with Dr. Mounir and take photos of each size so you can refer to them later and show them to your close relatives to get a second opinion.

The answer to this question will depend on the anatomy of your breasts.

The decision to have your implants placed over or under the muscle is a personal one. However, it is important that you understand the pros and cons of each surgical option.   • Sub-glandular implantation does produce some lift, but this is not a lasting effect.
  • Sub-glandular implantation does not affect the muscle and consequently causes no animation deformities.
  • Sub-glandular breast augmentation does not affect muscle activity/strength, making it an ideal option for bodybuilders.

Where would my incisions be placed?

There are four different incisions that may be used for breast augmentation surgery:

  • The inframammary incision (recommended by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons)
  • The peri-areolar incision or the so-called around the areola
  • The trans-axillary incision (done in the armpit)
  • The trans-umbilical incision

He prefers to follow the recommendation of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and usually places the incision in the breast crease (inframammary). What’s the difference between textured and smooth implants?

Textured Implants & Smooth Implants

  • Textured breast implants have an outer silicon shell, and their texture surface feels like sandpaper.
  • Textured implants have a lower rate of Capsular Contracture.
  • Textured implants have a lower risk of rotation or flipping inside the breast pocket.
  • Up to 359 cases of patients with breast textured implants have been reported to have contracted large-cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) in the US alone. There is some indication that there is a strong link between textured implants and lymphoma.
  • Smooth breast implants are usually cheaper.
  • Smooth implants have a thin shell making them feel softer.
  • Smooth implants have a higher rate of rotation/flipping.
  • They have a higher rate of rupture when compared to textured implants.
  • They are less likely to ripple.

How long do I need off work after Breast Augmentation?

This varies from one patient to another, depending on a number of factors, including whether your implants have been placed over or under the muscle. During your consultation, Dr. Mounir will give you all of the details regarding what to expect before, during, and after your surgery so that you are fully prepared for a smooth experience from start to finish.

When can I take a shower after my procedure?

Some surgeons believe that the quicker you can shower, the better. Dr. Mounir will advise you to wait at least one week before showering.

Will I have drains after my breast surgery?

No, Dr. Mounir never uses drains as part of his breast augmentation procedures unless necessary.

When can I wear a normal bra with an underwire?

You will be wearing a sports bra day and night for about six weeks. Then, you will be allowed to wear any bra you wish.

When can I go back to the gym?

Usually, patients are able to go back to the gym after four weeks post breast augmentation. Dr. Mounir will advise you to start with lower body exercises and after six weeks, you can do whatever you want, including swimming.

When can I have sex after breast enlargement?

Dr. Mounir will advise you to wait at least two weeks after breast augmentation.

Can breast implants improve your sex life?

How much does breast augmentation cost?

Specific items that you should consider in calculating the cost of breast augmentation surgery: Dr. Mounir does not charge for the initial consultation. However, there will be a £ 50 administration fee to be paid to the hospital. Your quote will be valid for three months. Hospital and anesthesia fees are set by the hospital and could change.

Smooth Vs. Textured Breast Implants: Which Is Better?

Breast implants come in two different texture surfaces: Smooth and rough silicone gel implants. Patients are required to choose either the textured or smooth implants. Each of the textures has its advantages and disadvantages.

How Long Do I need to heal completely?

It usually takes three to six months for full results to appear as your breasts heal and tissues settle around your implants.

  • Mammogram: If you are 50 years or over, Dr. Mounir may request a mammogram.
  • Revision Procedures: In case you need some corrective surgery, Dr. Mounir will waive his fees, but there will be nominal hospital fees.
  • Post-op Complications: Complications such as bleeding and infection are covered. If you do experience any complication necessitating urgent surgical treatment, this will be done free of charge.
  • Late Cancellation Fees: Before your surgery, you will need to make a deposit of at least 750 pounds. This deposit reflects services rendered up until your surgical date. If you do cancel or change the surgery date after payment of your deposit, there is a £250 re-booking or cancellation fee.
